Harold Speer became a member of the Hellam Varon team in 2004 and is still excited to be here. Specializing in closely held businesses, the first thing he mentions when asked what he enjoys about the job is the clients. "Having a satisfied client. Finding a solution to a problem they never knew they had. I like hearing 'Wow! I never knew an accountant could do that!'" Harold hated his accounting program until he had one great professor "and like that, everything changes. Life is so dynamic."
Outside of the office Harold spends as much time as he can on the water with his family, crabbing, clamming, and fishing. He can be seen with his head down a hole in pursuit of geoducks, which he says are delicious "either pan seared or just as sashimi." Harold has also climbed both Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams, and as an avid SCUBA diver spends nearly as much time under Puget Sound as on it.
When it comes to Hellam Varon, Harold has his gaze focused on the future. "We've got great people here, we really work well as a group," he says. "I look forward to keeping our team going and maintaining this great work environment that was established by the founding shareholders."
