Allegedly, Steve is ‘mostly’ retired, although he keeps an office at the company and can be found there most mornings. But in the afternoons one is far more likely to bump into him on a tennis court or at a Mariners game. He can also be found volunteering at an assisted living home and at the Bellevue branch of the Puget Sound Blood Bank. But more and more he is devoting his time to what he refers to as 'The Retirement T’s’: Time with wife Sheilah (whom he met in an accounting class.... “How romantic”, he smiles) as well as their three daughters, Texas Hold ‘em (he is an avid player both in Seattle and Las Vegas) and Temple (where he is active in a variety of roles). There are many other T’s too numerous to mention, vying for his time.
An adventurer by nature, one might also catch up with Steve on the top of Tiger Mountain strapping into a paragliding chute, river rafting through the Grand Canyon, or trying other adventures on his ‘bucket list’. But at the end of the day it all comes back to family and friends, which includes his coworkers, “It’s a great place to be,” he says of Hellam Varon. “From the very beginning we have successfully taken our work seriously, but not ourselves. I think we truly embody the idea of enjoying what we do.”
It’s clear Steve’s ‘mostly' retired status has kept him a very busy man!
